Skincare Spotlight: Dr. Roebuck's

Skincare Spotlight: Dr. Roebuck's

I’ve been meaning to sit down and write this post for a while as I was gifted a beautiful set of the newly re-branded Dr.Roebuck’s product back in September as they were preparing to launch in Canada at Shoppers Drug Mart (now available here!). I was instantly attracted to the branding of these beauty products, but I was truly sold once I saw this was an Australian company committed to removing harmful chemicals in our daily skincare, plus the founders grew up near Bondi Beach (one of my favourite beach spots) AND struggle with dry, eczema prone skin like me.

I’ve been slowly testing each item out and seeing which products fit best into my current skincare routine. My skin is sensitive, so I couldn’t introduce all of these at once as I wouldn’t be able to see which ones were the most effective. So, here we are in the middle of November and I’ve finally given them a go and can give a full review on all these amazing clean beauty products!

I was gifted a box of 5 products from their line and I’ve linked them all below.

The Story Behind Dr. Roebuck’s

“Nice to meet you, we're Kim and Zoe. Like you, we're always on the move without a minute to waste, so we'll keep our story short, like our ingredients list.

We spent long days under the Aussie sun, swimming in the waves of Bondi Beach from A.M. to P.M. Nothing could possibly get in the way of our love for the ocean - then came dry, sensitive skin, and eczema. Sigh.

We stopped feeling like ourselves. Luckily for us, our Mum and Dad were doctors. 40 years ago, they created a one-of-a-kind formula by removing ingredients instead of adding them. And guess what?
It worked. Our skin healed beautifully and our worries disappeared.

FAST FORWARD 30 YEARS: After learning, perfecting and testing our parents' process for the last 30 years, we've created a range of clean skin care products to share with the world. In honor of them, we called it Dr Roebuck's.

We continue to test, analyze and create to bring you clean, effective, multi-benefit skin care that works. Here's to you living your best life - we'll worry about the rest.”

Sarah’s Review

NO WORRIES DAILY MOISTURIZER, $60

No Worries is a lightweight moisturizer that is light enough to wear daily and underneath makeup. Personally, I find this one a bit too light as my skin is quite dry, and I tend to reach for the True-Blue serum instead. Although it’s lightweight, it is packed with vitamin E, rosehip oil, hyaluronic acid and macadamia oil (which is native to Australia) so I know it’s definitely got some punch to it. If you have oily skin, this moisturizer may be a perfect fit for a daily cream! This might come in handy for my Spring/Summer moisturizer when I don’t need as much hydration, but for now I’ll be tucking this one away until the warmer seasons come back.

TAMA MASK, $28

This is a dark orange coloured mask infused with turmeric, manuka honey and avocado oil so it’s a super creamy/oil infused mask for your face. I’ve been using this mask sparingly (once or twice a week but applying a thick layer each time!) but their site says to use it every other day to start for best results, then 2-3 times a week for maintenance. To be honest, I always forget to apply masks! I get busy in the evenings and completely forget but I do plan to use this one more often over the winter months because I’ll definitely need it.  It does separate because of the ingredients, so I would suggest massaging the tube before you apply because you don’t want to extract all the oil when you open it up. Overall, it’s a healing mask that leaves a hydrating glow and I did find it reduced redness which is great. I’ve also heard some skincare with turmeric can leave your skin stained – but this one does not! I don’t seem to have any sensitivities to this one, leaving me to believe this entire lineup works so well for my skin type.

TRUE BLUE HYDRATING SERUM, $75

This is by far my favourite item I was sent! It’s a beautiful gel serum with a pump for a mess-free application. It hydrates, plumps and smooths out skin for a more even complexion. I find this seriously hydrating and has a luxurious texture. I’ve been using a sparing amount in the mornings and using a much more generous amount in the evenings with my nighttime routine. True Blue is infused with Aloe Vera, Hyaluronic Acid, and natural CoQ10 (CoQ10 is a naturally-occurring nutrient in the body that acts as a strong antioxidant. It helps to improve skin’s firmness). Definitely a favourite and I think it’s well worth the price tag!

BYRON MASK, $30

This mask is a 2 in 1 formula, and works as a cleansing mask and exfoliator. It has biodegradable eco beads so it will remove any dead cells off the top layer but hydrate + cleanse as well. I don’t find the beads too abrasive which is great for my sensitive skin and I love using this one in the shower. I keep it on for about 5-10 minutes and use a few times a week.

BONDI MIST, $32

Last but not least! This Bondi Mist smells so good!! I’ve been using this as a first layer before my makeup and it’s been working well. It’s giving my makeup a bit more dimension and glow since it’s super hydrating. You can also use this anytime during the day to freshen up your face.

Thanks for reading my first edition of my Skincare Spotlight series! xo
