Book Club: Summer Edition

Book Club: Summer Edition

Highlighting five reads I’m currently loving

For my first Book Club post, I wanted to curate a seasonal edition of books I’m currently loving. I wanted to include a few of my all-time favourites for the first round up, so some may be oldies, but I promise they are goodies! Typically, I am drawn to self development and entrepreneurial books; however I also love fashion & visual, poetry and biographies. I’m a sucker for a good coffee table book, so I'll try to incorporate one each season, that I find aesthetically pleasing with some interesting content inside. {I've linked all the books within the text to easily find where they are available for purchase!}

The Kinfolk Entrepreneur: Ideas for Meaningful Work

Throughout this giant Kinfolk book (that also doubles as an amazing coffee table book), you learn about 40 different entrepreneurs from around the world and get an in-depth look into their success stories and inspiration behind their businesses. I find their stories so inspiring and their path is always the one less travelled. I personally love reading real stories on real people and how they worked their way to where they’re at now. This book also has tons of visuals of creative work spaces and personal interviews. A must read for any creative individual looking for a bit of inspiration in their career.

Journey to the Heart

I first stumbled upon this book when I worked at lululemon and I’ve always kept my copy of it nearby since I try to read a page everyday. I’ve read the full book countless times, but somehow I take away something different each time. This is an easy one to open up and read the passage of the day whenever you need a little inspiration.. Each day of the year has its own short story, quote & outlook that somehow always seems to resonate with me in one way or another. It’s enlightening, meaningful and full of that age old wisdom we all could use from time to time.

Wisdom of Sundays: Life Changing Insights from Super Soul Conversations

Oprah is one of my very favourites and I was absolutely glued to this book when I received it this past Christmas (even though I had a LOT of wedding planning to be doing). It’s ten chapters divided into different steps of Oprah’s spiritual journey, with conversations and interviews with some of the most profound leaders of our generation. I found the Tony Robbins and Jack Canfield interviews the most thought provoking, however there are so many important topics covered within this book. The Wisdom of Sunday’s  lead to my fall in love with Oprah’s Super Soul Conversations Podcast once I finished this book so I could continue listening in to her most up to date interviews & conversations.

You are a Circle: A Visual Meditation for the Creative Mind

This neat little poetry book is almost exclusively about creativity and the connection to your creative self. Every page has a beautiful print to coincide with each passage. I had to track this book down on Amazon, however it’s a quick read and is filled with simple, timeless messages.

Love x Style x Life

Garance Dore has been in the fashion blogging industry since 2006 and originally got her start as an illustrator. I have to admit, I originally bought this book because I LOVED the cover. I thought even if it wasn't a great read, it'll look great on the shelf, however - it turns out, I absolutely loved the book, maybe even more than the cover! It was such a great read, so witty yet the content had depth to it. She offers up her best tips on mixing high & low fashion, shopping at Zara (tip: always stick to the very front of the store) and her observations on beauty which, are some that have really stuck with me over the years. It's the ultimate guide on, well - love, style & life to put it simply!
